Metal Mezzanine

Most mezzanines, because they are used to bear the weight of equipment, stored materials and even people, are made of very strong, durable materials. These materials include steel, stainless steel, titanium and other strong metals. Some metal mezzanines can feature plastic parts, such as railings and paneling, but the major load-bearing elements in most mezzanine systems are made of metal. Some metals are more advantageous as mezzanine construction materials than others; stainless steel, for example, would be likely to fare better in environments in which consistent moisture or saline exposure is likely. In such situations, stainless steel, which is corrosion-resistant as well as strong and durable, would be a more appropriate choice than non-stainless steel varieties. In situations in which ferrous metals or metals with high weight are not appropriate, nonferrous metals like aluminum are sometimes used to construct mezzanines. In other cases, steel or stainless steel can be used to construct columns and other load-bearing elements, while other parts, such as mezzanine floors, can be constructed out of aluminum.

Metal mezzanines are employed in an extensive variety of contexts throughout industry and commerce. Especially in industry, mezzanines are prized because they allow operations to expand the amount of usable space within existing buildings; structural changes are generally not required when a mezzanine is installed in a factory or warehouse. These mezzanines can be used to provide space for storage, which is especially important in distribution operations. In the context of industrial manufacturing, mezzanines can be used to create space for storage, for machinery and even for office space. Metal mezzanines are often used to allow for the creation of office space within an industrial workspace; they can usually be fitted with modular walls, carpeted flooring and even windows. Because of their high utility and comparatively low cost, metal mezzanines are likely to continue in their popularity for many years to come.
