Clothes, Clothes and more Clothes

I, like any girl, like having new clothes. I definitely have more than I need, but I have nothing compared to my sister. While all of mine easily fit into my closet, hers would fill her closet, floor to ceiling, plus several dressers, plus half a closet in another room. Then there are all the items she does not even need to put away yet, some because they are dirty, some because of laziness. In other words, she has enough clothes to devote an entire room to them. I think... Read More

Modular Mezzanines Make Room to Grow

Waste is every business's enemy. Despite this fact, one of the most common wastes of a resource gets overlooked by industrial professionals every day, and what's more: most of them stare this waste in the face every time they come to work. What kind of waste am I talking about? If you happen to be on a factory or warehouse floor at this moment, look around you. If you see a big gap between your building's ceiling and the tops of your shelves, equipment, offices and storage areas, you're looking... Read More

Structural Steel vs. Cold Rolled Mezzanine Systems

by Conrad Walker of Panel Built, Inc. When it comes to increasing space in a warehouse, it is widely accepted that building up is just as good (or better) than expanding outward. The most common method for doing this is with a mezzanine. A mezzanine is an intermediate floor inside of a building, usually open and not walled off. There are a few different types of mezzanines; including stick built, fiberglass, and rack-supported. In general, the two most common types of mezzanines are cold rolled and structural steel. Understanding the... Read More

Warehouse Mezzanines Expand Options

Every supplier and distributor needs access to a space in which they can store their products before they are sold. Most suppliers and distributors make use of warehouses for this purpose, and most warehouses are large, open buildings with fairly high ceilings. Building a new warehouse can be a tremendous expense after all of the associated costs are factored in; these include building permits, construction costs, labor costs and moving costs, not the mention disruptions in business. Many companies, instead of incurring such expenses, choose to build warehouse mezzanines in... Read More

Prefabricated Mezzanines are an Exceptional Value

If a very large, custom mezzanine is beyond the space expansion needs of a given operation, prefabricated mezzanines may be the way to go. Mezzanines are inexpensive alternatives to building construction or relocation, and prefabricated mezzanines can be less expensive than structural or custom mezzanines. They are ideal for companies that require space expansion but not on a large scale. Prefabricated mezzanines can be manufactured even before they are ordered. When a customer has need of one, they can often be prepared and installed more quickly than other mezzanine varieties... Read More

Prefabricated Mezzanines

Prefabricated mezzanines are raised platforms that are partially assembled and prepared to certain specifications in advance of purchase by an end user. Industrial mezzanines are used exclusively in the context of industrial operations. Every company that is concerned with operational efficiency must take space usage into consideration. In order to be effective, companies find innovative ways to make the most of their work spaces.

When a company expands to the limits of the capacity of its facilities, it must make some choices if it plans to continue growing. Companies in this position can move to new, larger facilities, they can expand their current facilities or they can make use of mezzanines, which effectively double the amount of usable space in the areas where they are installed. An entire industry exists to help companies contend with the problem of workspace management. Mezzanine construction companies work with manufacturing, distribution and supply operations to help them find suitable space management solutions that will increase the amount of workspace without impeding existing operations. Because the space management needs of many companies can be quite similar, prefabricated mezzanines have become popular with companies that desire fast installation of simple mezzanine systems.

Prefabricated mezzanines are often modular and relocatable to allow for expansion, reduction or removal of platforms. They can be less expensive than mezzanines that are constructed on-site and are often less labor and time-intensive in terms of setup. This ensures that facility operations will only be disrupted by construction for a short time, allowing workers to go about their jobs without much interference. Prefabricated mezzanines are available in a wide variety of configurations. Customers can choose the height, number of platforms (usually between 1 and 3), weight capacity, beam and column configuration and many more features of their systems. Most industrial mezzanines support beams and columns are made of steel because of the material’s durability. These components are connected by heavy-duty nuts and bolts. Mezzanines are made accessible to workers by sets of treaded or grated staircases. Important safety features like railings, reflective or bright-colored tape and markings and other safety features are a requirement for worker protection in many mezzanine configurations (an exception would be walled, platform-mounted offices). When mezzanines are used for storage, they are sometimes supplemented with lifts or conveyor systems for easy transportation of products on and off of the platforms.
