Pouches Industry Information
Pouches
Pouches are small, non-rigid containers used for the storage or
transportation of small objects. Pouches are usually characterized by
their small size compared to bags, though the flexibility of the
distinction allows for its application in reference to a range of
non-rigid container sizes.
The word “pouch” can be used in reference to all kinds of storage and carrying tools, and pouches are used for an extensive variety of purposes across industry and commerce. A pouch can be a piece of fabric sewn onto an item of clothing; such pouches are more commonly referred to as pockets, except in the case of hooded sweatshirts. Small pouches can be made for attachment to utility belts; such pouches can be used by construction workers and carpenters to provide easy access to small utilities like fasteners. Other types of pouches include auto jack, battery, cable, camera, flag, infuser, and manual pouches. Many sewing contractors will sew samples of pouches for little to no cost, especially if a contract is assured. Many companies give away or sell bags and pouches printed with logos as promotional materials. Such pouches are usually produced by custom sewing or contract sewing operations.
Sewing contractors are generally limited to dealing with particular kinds of fabric in order to ensure the appropriate attributes of the pouch. Vinyl-coated nylon is a lightweight, durable material that is weather resistant. Neoprene and Hypalon are chemical and abrasion resistant, often used in industrial applications. These synthetic materials are popular because of their low cost, ease of production and the ease with which they can be printed with logos and other information. Canvas, which includes twills, soft flannels and felts, is a breathable, soft material that is used for environmentally-friendly and durable pouches. Canvas and other natural materials are popular because of their perceived environmental friendliness in comparison to other materials, particularly petroleum-based synthetic materials. Other materials used to make pouches include suede, leather, felt, cotton and polyester. Because pouches are infrequently used in demanding applications, the importance of composition choice is not as pressing as can be the case in the construction of bags for use in industrial or commercial capacities. Whatever the needs of a given company, a pouch and bag manufacturer is available with the right materials to meet the needs of that company.
