  • Should You Use a Liquid Ring Pump?

Industrial vacuum pump suppliers stock vacuum pumps in a variety of sizes and types for a variety of uses. One typical vacuum pump that most suppliers offer is the liquid ring pump. A liquid ring pump rotates a vaned impeller to compress gas inside the pump in the cylindrical casing. Water is fed into the pump by this action, which forms a moving cylindrical ring inside the casing. This rink seals the space between the impeller vanes of the pump, forming compression chambers. This causes air to become trapped in...

  • Liquid Ring Pumps Explained

A liquid ring pump is a type of vacuum pump that operates using a rotating positive displacement pump. These vacuum pumps are most often used to remove excess liquid during a manufacturing process. The pumps can also be used as a gas pump in some circumstances. These vacuum pumps have a huge range of use in many industrial processes from paper manufacturing to food production. Liquid ring pumps work by rotating a vaned impeller located inside a cylindrical case. When a liquid enters the pump, the rotating impeller creates a...

  • Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps are Vital to Industry

Liquid ring vacuum pumps are also commonly referred to as water seal vacuum pumps. These vacuum pumps utilize a rotating positive displacement pump to perform its main function. With a low friction design, the liquid ring pump has only one moving part: the rotor. Therefore, sliding friction only happens to the shaft seals. The function of a liquid ring vacuum pump is similar to a rotary vane vacuum pump. It is possible that the liquid ring pump most widely utilized vacuum pump in industry, the liquid ring vacuum pump provides...

  • The Usefulness of Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps

The liquid ring vacuum pump is a useful tool that many factories require for land remediation, distilling, desalination, and more. Liquid ring vacuum pump manufacturers are able to manufacture pumps that have long suction lines without compromising suction quality. This makes liquid ring pumps highly cost effective and have short pay-back periods for the companies that use the pumps. Many industries can use the ring pumps to pump combinations of liquids, solids, foams, and air, which makes the pumps even more versatile. The ability to pump foam is especially useful...

Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps

Liquid ring vacuum pumps are vacuum pump systems that make use of a liquid seal to maintain the negative pressure of a vacuum. Vacuum pumps are devices that remove atmosphere from an enclosure. When atmosphere has been removed from an enclosure, the area within the enclosure is called a vacuum. A complete vacuum is a space devoid of pressure. In practice, it is impossible to create a complete vacuum.

No machinery can completely remove atmospheric pressure from a space, but different vacuums can create varying levels of low atmospheric pressure depending on their construction. Liquid ring vacuum pumps are not the most powerful vacuum pump systems, but they are effective and reliable. They are used in many industrial processes including the vacuum forming of products like egg cartons and other forms of packaging. They can also be used in more complex industrial applications like soil remediation (the collection of contaminated groundwater) and petroleum refining. Vapor recovery processes, which involve the reuptake of vapors created or released by an industrial process, are often accomplished with the use of a liquid ring vacuum pump.

Liquid ring vacuum pumps are made up of a circular enclosure, a rotating vane with paddles, a set volume of liquid and openings for intake and outlet of gas from the vacuum enclosure. The liquid in a liquid ring vacuum is often water, but it can also be oil or another liquid. Depending on the properties of the gas being evacuated, water or oil may not be appropriate because of reactivity concerns. Regardless of whatever liquid is used, the process by which liquid vacuum pumps create a vacuum is always the same. The spinning of the rotating vane causes the liquid to form a ring around the outside of the circular enclosure. This creates an air-tight seal and individual compression chambers between each of the vane’s paddles, all of which are partially submerged in the liquid at all times. As the vane spins, it draws air through its inlet, compresses it and forces it through the outlet. The expelled atmosphere cannot rush back in through the pump because of the liquid seal.
