Gear motors come in many different sizes with a range of power outputs, but they are all usually powered by electricity and have a drive shaft that engages with a rotating gear to exert force. Even something as basic as the wipers on the windshield of a car has a very small gear motor that turns the gears of the wiper arms and allows them to move back and forth.
