Pallet Stackers Industry Information

Pallet Stackers

Pallet stackers are pallet jacks used to lift, move, and stack palletized goods too heavy to be lifted manually. Pallet stackers are used to load and unload pallets on trucks and move pallets from one place to another. Pallet stackers are made from heavy duty materials to fulfill the purposes for which they are purchased. A pallet stacker is composed of the forks which slide underneath the pallet to lift it and the engine that contains the hydraulic electronic or gas-run equipment that generates power to the machine. The different kinds of pallet stackers fall under two main categories: manual and powered.

Pallet Stacker Design and Function

Powered pallet stackers are usually gas or electric-run. They are capable of stacking heavy pallets by lifting the weight off the ground. In general, these can lift up to five tons. They are able to use automatic power to lower or raise the forks of the stacker and are not as physically demanding on workers as the manual pallet stackers. They are usually operated with the function of buttons and machine handles. The handle is used to steer the stacker and move the stacker in a forward or reverse direction, and a button is used to raise or lower the forks. Some pallet stackers are operated from a sit down position and these are called forklifts. Manual pallet stackers are hand-powered and work hydraulically to ease the process of lifting heavy pallets. These pallet stackers are usually operated by pushing and pulling the jack to a specific position. They are called walk-behind pallets as a result. Usually, a foot pedal raises the stacker forks and pushing another lever lowers them. The manual pallet stackers can usually handle weights of up to one ton, but the weights can vary depending on the design of the stacker.

Factors to Consider When Purchasing Pallet Stackers

It is important to be very careful when picking out a pallet stacker for use. A few things to note beforehand would be the maximum weight to be lifted, the fork width desired (which may vary depending on the intended use), and the lift height. The lift height can determine how many pallets can be stacked at a time. Some other forklift pallet stackers may have an adjustable fork, which allows for the forks of the stacker to fit beneath pallets of different shapes and sizes. This is an advantage because it terminates the need to purchase different pallet stackers.
