Jib Cranes
A jib crane is any type of crane with a projecting arm, called a jib, which mounts a hoist. Jib cranes use a cantilever system to allow for full or partial rotation, allowing them to cover a great deal of floor space.
Jib cranes may be either wall- or floor-mounted. Floor-mounted jib cranes can lift heavier loads than wall-mounted jib cranes. Freestanding and portable jib cranes are also available. These jib cranes are mounted to their own foundation, similar to a floor-mounted jib crane.
Articulated jib cranes contain a rotating arm attached to a stationary arm. They can be used to move items around corners and columns. Telescoping jib cranes contain a jib that telescopes in order to increase or decrease its length and move the hoist longitudinally.
