Injection Molding Rubber
Injection molding machines are one of the most effective ways to mold rubber. With injection molding, the rubber is heated until it becomes a paste and then the rubber is forced into a mold where it hardens. Rubber pieces produced this way are strong and unlikely to lose their shape. Compression molding is a very common style of rubber molding where a mold is placed in or near a cavity. Plates are then utilized to force the elastomer to fill the cavity. The elastomer is then vulcanized and removed.
Transfer Molding
When you have a mix between compression and injection molding this is known as transfer molding. In this process the user will place a large piece into a pit. A machine then presses the rubber into the mold, where the rubber conforms to the shape of the mold.
Molded Rubber Products
Almost every industry utilizes some style of molded rubber products. Manufacturing operations involving machinery often must contend with issues of vibration caused by moving parts. In order to protect workers, other machinery and the vibrating equipment itself, machinery that creates vibration is often secured using rubber washers or bushings that absorb vibration and prevent excessive movement, these parts are produced by rubber molders.
Another popular rubber molded product is a rubber grommet. Rubber grommets are used in industrial, commercial and consumer contexts. A rubber grommet is a rubber shape that fits around a hole in a surface, the grommet can protect wires or other hardware that passes through the hole.
