Drum Palletizers
Drum palletizers are automated machines or conveyor systems that take drums or barrels off of conveyor lines and move them to and from pallets in an upright position. Able to handle almost any rimmed steel, plastic or fiber drums, drum palletizers are generally only to be used for drums, but can be configured to work with products such as large shipping containers, kegs, bread trays and crates. With an excellent return on investment (ROI), drum palletizers also increases safety in the workplace by eliminating potential injuries associated with lifting heavy loads. Drum palletizers offer a durable design as well as the ability to handle a wide range of drum shapes and sizes ranging from 15 to 60 gallons. Particularly useful in heavy duty industrial applications, additional industries that benefit from the use of drum palletizers include packaging, labeling, pharmaceutical, food processing, material handling, medical and chemical processing. Drum palletizers can be constructed from materials such as stainless steel and carbon steel; however, stainless steel is often preferable to carbon steel because of its high corrosion resistance. In addition, drum palletizers can be fully automated or semi-automated. Drum palletizers consist of a steel frame with both square tube and I-beam construction. Mounted onto this frame is a carriage, or mechanical arm, with wide jaws and an automatic grip that is used to raise and place the drums on pallets such as shipping pallets, spill containment pallets and even drum dollies. The drum palletizer lifts the drums from an infeed conveyor and carries them to a designated pallet position where it then gently positions the drum on the pallet or onto a movable or stationary stripper plate. Drums will continue to be taken from the conveyor until the pallet or stripper plate is full. In a drum palletizer with a stripper plate, once a pallet has been dispensed underneath of the stripper plate the drums are pushed forward so that once they meet the edge of the stripper plate they will drop a short distance onto the pallet. When the pallet is loaded and released, another empty pallet is automatically dispensed into the loading position and thus the cycle is repeated. Drums can be configured onto the pallets in a variety of quantities and patterns, depending on the drum palletizer’s predetermined pattern sequence and the number of drum layers, or rows of drums.
