Plastic Grating

Plastic grating offers a lighter-weight solution than common aluminum grating or steel and metal grates, and can easily be fabricated into custom specific designs. Typical applications include floor systems, walkways, work platforms, stairs, ramps, trench covers, drain grates and catwalks. Two main considerations when deciding upon plastic fiberglass are its levels of strength and resistance to corrosion. The existence of resin in the gratings provides extremely high corrosion resistant properties to the structure, resulting in a low maintenance and low repair solution. Plastic typically offers optimal impact resistance and as a durable material is minimally affected by wear and tear. In fiberglass grating, the glass provides further strengthening properties to the structure which is important in areas which may receive heavy and consistent traffic or those areas which experience any stress or tension.

Due to the property of excellent corrosion resistance, plastic gratings are particularly ideal for highly corrosive applications such as outdoor walkways or products, or marine and seaside applications. Plastic grates provide a safe and durable, non-slip surface when constructed. Plastic or fiberglass grating is easy to install and maintain. Compared to the other traditional grating materials such as iron or steel, plastic is a light weight material option that offers numerous advantages. Plastic is a malleable material which can be fabricated into specific shapes and sizes in order to fit a particular area or design.  Installation therefore will require minimal adjustments and does not require the machinery or labor to install that steel or metal grating does. It is easier to move and place, and for raised applications requires less support. In addition plastic grating does not need to be finished with coatings or galvanized to improve the strength of the material. The texture of plastic grating, either as bar grating or plate grating, provides greater traction than solid flooring and prevents slip and fall incidents that are one of the top causes of industrial accidents. In addition, openings in the grating allow liquids, snow, mud and dirt to drain and pass through the flooring or walkway rather than collecting on the surface.
