Eye Bolts
Eye bolts are bolts with a thread at one end and a circular shape or "eye" at the other in place of a standard head. The eye in an eyebolt is used to guide a cable, rope, or chain for lifting purposes; to guide wires; or for use as tie-downs.
Eyebolts are rated for lifting different vertical loads and are generally made of aluminum, steel, or titanium. Of these, aluminum is the lightest. However, steel has very good load ratings and titanium may be used in specialized applications such as aerospace.
Eyebolts may be categorized as open or closed. With an open eyebolt, the eye is open, generally to at least to the same width as the bolt's diameter. A closed or turned eyebolt, in comparison, has an eye that forms a complete circle and may be welded together.
