Since its founding in 1989, Star One has grown from a small machine shop with a single-wire EDM into a thriving full-service machining facility. With the recent addition of several state-of-the-art machines including the newest high-speed wire EDM, vertical machining center, straight-cut saw, and surface grinder available, Star One is fully equipped to complete your next project quickly and efficiently. Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is at the core of our business. EDM machines use an electrode wire as thin as a human hair to produce a current that cuts the workpiece without actually touching it. We have machines capable of large jobs (3300 lbs in weight) down to parts so small and fragile that they can’t be machined using any other method. Our 6 EDM Wire machines can produce tolerances of up to .0001 (ten thousands) of an inch, and can work just about any material that conducts electricity. EDM is the most accurate and economical way to produce tools, prototypes, and relatively small runs of parts. Star-One machinists have been using this technology since 1989, and are regional leaders in its use. With almost 30 years of experience, and state of the art machines we’re always looking forward to our next project. EDM happens without the electrode ever touching the workpiece, making EDM a no-contact machining method that is precise and cuts metal fast. We work with all types of tool steels to produce components used in a wide range of industries from punch and die details for metal stamping to mold and die components for plastic and rubber extrusion or injection molding. We also work with non-ferrous materials like graphite, brass and aluminum and more exotic materials such as Tungsten, Molybdenum and Rhenium. As a general rule, if a material can conduct electricity, it can be machined by the EDM process.
