William Froude invented the water brake dynamometer in 1877 to measure the power of naval engines. He formed Heenan & Froude, which has grown into Froude, Inc. Our dynamometers are known worldwide for their superior quality, reliability, and accuracy. Froude’s corporate headquarters and manufacturing center is based in Novi, Michigan, with another manufacturing and support center located in Worcester, United Kingdom. Further sales and service centers in Brazil, China, and India mean that we can serve customers worldwide.
Today, Froude designs, manufactures, and supplies engine testing systems for the automotive, gas turbine, marine, and industrial markets. We offer AC dynamometers, eddy current dynamometers, hydraulic dynamometers, low & high speed dynamometers, controllers & data acquisition software, and ancillary equipment. Furthermore, our engineers have the ability to produce custom solutions to meet engine testing requirements. In addition to test cell solutions, Froude offers dynamometer refurbishments, spares, repairs, and maintenance contracts.
