Lab Furniture
Lab furniture can be customized to meet specific needs of a laboratory and those who will be working in it. Ergonomic requirements are often taken into consideration with lab furniture work stations in order to prevent workers from injury from repetitive reaching or bending. Schools, research facilities, scientific organizations and hospitals all use a variety of lab furniture, including work stations. Lab furniture is available in a variety of materials including stainless steel, wood, painted steel, and plastic laminate. A single lab may contain a number of work stations due to the amount of items being worked with at a single time and the number of people who may be occupying the same space.
Referring to all of the various pieces that are utilized in laboratory workstations, lab furniture encompasses a broad range of furnishings. Some particular items that are commonly available as types of lab furniture are fume hoods, laboratory countertops and laboratory cabinets. Fume hoods, also known as fume cupboards, are a type of localized ventilation device designed in order to limit exposure to hazardous or noxious gases. Typically, a fume hood is a large piece of equipment that encloses up to five sides of a work area, and the bottom is most commonly located at standing work height. Laboratory countertops are constructed from a wide range of materials including epoxies, phenolic materials, stainless steel and even hard woods such as maple. Laboratory cabinets, often referred to as biosafety cabinets as well, can include a wide range of types for specific storage applications including acid storage, narcotic storage, flammable storage and specimen storage. In addition, many types of work stations are typically constructed as LAN stations. LAN stations, which are local area network stations, provide access to computer networks that are beneficial in the recording of the various data received during the process of scientific research, testing and data collecting within the laboratory.
