Welded Wire Mesh

Welded wire mesh is a product made from perpendicular metal wires that have been welded at their 90 degree angle cross points and are used in the construction, fencing and engineering industries. This mesh is most commonly made of iron or steel wire, but any metal that is wieldable may be used. Welded mesh is an alternative to woven mesh, which is made of smaller gauge interlaced wires. In this process, the wires are resistance welded together and cut into rolls or flat panels. They are then manufactured into many commercial and industrial products, including fencing, gratings, reinforcement for concrete and animal cages.

Wire mesh that has been welded is generally available 4 different ways—galvanized, hot dipped galvanized, PVC coated or made of stainless steel. Welded mesh can be galvanized two different ways. Electro galvanized metal has been painted with an organic solvent containing zinc particles, while hot dipped galvanizing is the process of coating the metal in molten zinc. PVC coated wire mesh has been galvanized and coated in an even layer of plastic that can be shiny and come in many different colors. Compared to the other types, stainless steel wire mesh is the most expensive but also the strongest and longest lasting option. It is mostly used in industrial settings, and makes up the majority of material used for fencing systems.
