Vibratory Conveyors
Typically used for powder and bulk material handling applications, vibratory conveyors handle products including wood wastes, glass, food products, gypsum, scrap tires, plastics, chemicals, minerals, aggregates, foundry materials and recyclables. For sorting recyclables, trommel screens can be used to cut down on the huge amount of labor required, which is an important step in making recycling a cost-effective part of manufacturing processes. As a result, recycling industries use vibratory conveyors extensively to convey and sort materials such as plastic, wood, crushed cement and metals for reclamation, while fertilizer, sand and gravel, mining and pulp industries use trommel screens and vibrating screens to convey, sift and sort. Additional industries that benefit from vibratory conveyor systems include automotive, pharmaceutical, food processing, petroleum, mining, agricultural, aerospace and packaging.
Vibratory conveyors are metal troughs which vibrate in one direction allowing powder bulk solids or heterogenous mixtures to be conveyed from one process to another. The metal troughs can be covered or uncovered and are typically constructed from mild steel or stainless steel in application-specific configurations. Electromechanical or electromagnetic vibrators are attached to the bottom of the trough at various intervals. While electromechanical vibrators are more common and simpler in design, electromagnetic vibrators offer a smoother conveying motion. The trough is mounted on top of a structural framework through the use of mounting springs. These springs, which could range from leaf springs to steel coil springs, work for shock absorption as well as ensuring that the vibrations occur at a natural frequency. In addition, a drive assembly consisting of sheaves and one or two electric motors, typically unbalanced, are attached to the structural framework in order to ensure that the materials are vibrated in a specific direction. The motors are often constructed from vibration-resistant carbon steel. Some vibratory conveyors have ultra-low vibrations designed specifically for solids which are delicate, sticky or may liquefy, such as gummy bears or lettuce. A vibrating screen is a sizing screen which is vibrated either mechanically or electrically, in order to separate and move pieces resting on the screen. Trommels, or trommel screens are vibrating screens which help sort small particles from large particles.
