Shock absorbers and vibration control parts are used to prevent kinetic energy and motion from flowing through two connecting surfaces, thereby reducing the effects of vibration and the potential for resulting noise. Vibration mounts typically consist of two parts: the isolator and the fasteners. The fasteners are metal studs used to attach the mount to its fixed surface and to the piece of equipment which it is to control the vibration for. The isolator is the vibration absorbent material that surrounds the fasteners. This is typically made from a mix of polymers, such as rubber and a plastic. For heavier-duty applications, a seismic mount or a stud mount might be more appropriate.
