Industry Information

Ultrasonic Tanks

Ultrasonic tanks are the components of ultrasonic cleaners that hold the water, cleaning solution and parts to be cleaned. Often referred to as immersion tanks, this component of the cleaning system is made of stainless steel, which is easily cleaned and sterilized because of its smooth surface, which does not easily trap contaminants. It must be air and water tight, and can be many different shapes and sizes depending on the type of objects cleaned in the tanks. The medical, pharmaceutical, automotive, electronics, weapons, marine, sports equipment, beverage and food processing industries use ultrasonic tanks to clean both process machine parts and products that are contaminated during manufacturing. They hold objects as large as computer monitors and golf clubs, or large quantities of smaller parts like automotive components.

The tank component of ultrasonic cleaning systems features a drain, nozzles, and a thermostatic controlled heating system. The top may be open or have a lid, and the transducer system introduces the ultrasonic sound waves into the liquid. Depending on the strength and size of the component, different frequencies are used. For delicate and smaller parts, high frequencies are used, while larger and tougher objects that need heavy duty cleaning use low frequency waves. When selecting a tank for ultrasonic cleaning, its size is an important factor. For objects like golf clubs, which are long and vertical, the tank used to clean them must match their size and be deep enough to totally emerge the club. When cleaning small objects, a basket is often used.
