Mobile Shelving

A mobile shelving unit is a storage rack that has wheels on the bottom so that it can be easily transported from one location to another. Mobile shelving optimizes space by arranging items both vertically and horizontally while also allowing inventory to be exhibited in an orderly fashion.

Mobile Shelving

Mobile shelving comes in a variety of designs that differ most significantly in their material construction and dimensions. Commonly materials used to make mobile shelving units include metal, plastic and wood. Specific metals are aluminum and stainless steel; this is because of their positive characteristics, including being lightweight and therefore easy to maneuver without sacrificing any of the strength and durability necessary to transport heavy loads. Pertinent dimensions for these units include the height, length and depth, as well as the unit's weight capacity. Particularly if the mobile shelving is being used in an industrial context as industrial shelving, these dimensions are important; carrying a product that is too heavy for the mobile shelving unit may result in injury and loss of the product as well. Safety must be the number one priority. Whether the mobile shelving is open or closed is another priority consideration when a buyer is purchasing a unit, and it all depends on what they will be moving around. If accessibility is most important then having two sides open on the cart is important. However, if the items being held will easily fall or move around, a cart with one wall would probably be preferred.

Mobile shelving is used in warehouses to hold and organize products that are to be distributed. It is also used in homes and offices to hold storage containers, boxes, cleaning products and other goods. Specialized shelves are made to hold books, pallets, and clothing. Any of these shelving systems can be made mobile in order to enhance transportability and movement. Specific mobile shelving styles include rotary file, high density and powered shelving. Rotary filing mobile shelving is in essence a filing cabinet on wheels, often utilized in an office setting because it is so versatile. These items can easily move around and make filing easy to store and organize, as well as doubling as additional countertop space if stabilized. High density mobile shelving systems are often found in law offices or courts, where vast amounts of paperwork must be stored efficiently but also be easily accessible. That is why this system, which is set up with the shelving units on gliders, is a good fit. Powered shelving is an automatic system run electrically, usually utilized in high power office settings where large databases need to be easily accessible.
