Steel Plates
Steel plates are flat rolled, made of stainless steel, and manufactured in steel service centers. They are commonly used in construction and engineering. After service centers prepare the steel plates, they are purchased and used in the building, automotive, electronics, shipbuilding and aerospace industries. Steel plates are structural steel and often used in the construction of bridges, buildings, liners, base plates, oil rigs, gussets, ships and pipelines. Due to its workability, steel plates are ideal for use in welding, drilling, machining, shearing, forming and other metal working applications. Amour plate, a specific type of steel plate, is often utilized within the military defense industry.
Steel plates maintain a certain amount of thickness that is based on plate width, at least 0.0250 inches. They are produced in almost any size or shape, depending on requirements for certain applications. They are hot rolled and have a flat rolled finish. Plate forming services include plate sawing, heat treating, stress relieving, annealing, normalizing, flame cutting, special testing, milling, deburring, straightening and shot or sand blasting. Steel plates are often pickled in steel service centers, which is a treatment used to clean or remove impurities on steel by applying sulfuric or hydrochloric acid to the surface.
