  • The Troubles of Stainless Steel Tubes in China

Tariff wars between countries have existed for hundreds of years. A tariff war begins when one country starts selling products for below market value in another country. The second country wants their own companies to be able to remain competitive in the market, so the country places tariffs on the country selling their products for less. This requires the country to raise the prices of their items to cover the cost of the tariff, and the price of the goods evens out between the two countries. One of the most...

What Exactly Is the Difference Between Stainless and Ordinary Steel? All steel is iron based, but stainless steel contains chromium at 10% or more by weight. Steel is susceptible to rust, an active iron oxide film that forms when steel is exposed to air and moisture. This iron oxide film is active and accelerates corrosion by forming more iron oxide. Stainless steel is rust resistant because of passivity. Passivity is when chromium forms a passive film of chromium oxide to repair the surface layer and prevent further corrosion. What Are...

  • The Difference Between Tube and Pipe [An Eagle Stainless Tube & Fabrication Article]

Is It a Pipe or a Tube? In some instances the terms may be used interchangeably, however there is one key difference between tube and pipe, particularly in how the material is ordered and toleranced. Tubing is used in structural applications so the outside diameter becomes the important dimension. Tubes are often put into applications such as medical devices that require precise outside diameters. The outside diameter is important since it will indicate how much it can hold as a stability factor. Where as pipes are normally used to transport...

Industry Information

Stainless Steel Pipe

A stainless steel pipe is a long tube made of stainless steel that is used to carry water, oil, gas, or other materials. Stainless steel pipes are used in applications involving corrosive fluids, high temperatures and high contaminant levels due of the great corrosion resistance of stainless steel.

Industries in which stainless steel pipes are popular include the oil/gas, pulp and paper, and water/wastewater industries. Stainless steel pipe is another common term for metal tubing. All piping is typically distinguished by standardized values, rather than actual measurements, that identify the outside diameter and wall thickness of the pipe. Piping is used mainly for the transmission of water or gas and used almost exclusively in the plumbing and pipefitting industries, whereas tubes are more diverse in their implementation.

The use of stainless steel in the production of pipes is widespread due to the advantageous properties of stainless steel, the most common material used in the manufacturing of piping. Stainless steel provides excellent corrosion resistance, is easy to clean, requires low maintenance, and is cost-effective in the long run. Even though stainless steel may require a higher initial cost than other metals, maintenance and replacement costs are lower. Stainless steel is cheaper than titanium, a metal commonly used in applications similar to stainless steel, including those in the medical field.
