Tire Shredders
Tire shredders are specialized shredders that shred, chip, or granulate old tires for recycling purposes.
The two main considerations that go into the choice of a tire shredder are the feedstock (type of tires that will be processed) and the end product. Types of feedstock include passenger tires, semi-truck tires, and off-road tires.
Crumb rubber is produced from shredded tires and can be used for a number of purposes. For example, it can be used in conjunction with coal in cement kilns and energy recovery and as a component in rubberized asphalt concrete (RAC), a highly durable road surface. This type of shredded rubber is also used on playing fields for sports like soccer and football.
Tire shredding is a multi-step process. Before they can be put through a shredder, tires must be inspected for contamination from materials such as mud and rocks, cleaned, and debeaded (separated from the steel bead around the rim). If the tires are being made into crumb rubber, they must also be granulated into small shreds.
