Flexible conveyors, in the context of screw conveyors, are materials handling equipment that contain a large screw located inside of tubular housing. When the screw is turned by a motor, it draws the material into the housing, where it rotates along the thread and is transported up the length of the screw. Flexible conveyors are characterized by their flexibility compared to other conveyor varieties.

Flexible Conveyors
A screw conveyor is constructed of a conveyance channel, which can be tubular or polygonal, as well as a rotating screw (also called an auger). They are used in all kinds of industrial contexts, including agriculture, manufacturing, plastic thermoforming, fabrication, mining and many others. The common need in all of these contexts is the need for an effective means of transporting materials from one place to another. In cases where a conveyor belt is not an appropriate choice, a screw conveyor can be used instead. Their main advantage over belt conveyors is that they can fully contain and enclose the materials they convey. This is particularly useful in the transportation of powdered or granular substances like carbon black or grain. Vertical screw conveyors, inclined screw conveyors and all other examples of screw conveyor systems are useful in the mining, agriculture, manufacturing, food processing and many other industries.Whether a screw conveyor will be flexible or rigid depends on its intended use. For example, vertical screw conveyors, which are usually affixed to a structure and which are situated perpendicular relative to the ground, would not need to be flexible because they are rarely moved. A portable screw conveyor, on the other hand, is moved frequently and must also be stored when it is not in use. It can be helpful for a portable screw conveyor's operators if the conveyance channel and screw are at least somewhat flexible. This can make set up and disassembly easier. Most flexible conveyors are inclined conveyors, and their angle of incline varies depending on their application. Depending on the flexibility of the conveyor, the variability of incline can cover a range of up to 90°. Aside from their added flexibility, flexible screw conveyors are no different from other screw conveyor varieties.
