Liquid silicone rubber is the untreated, liquid form of silicone rubber. Liquid silicone rubber, when combined with a catalyst and, in some cases, other additives, can be heat-cured and shaped into useful products. Being a synthetic rubber, silicone rubber synthesizes many of the desirable characteristics of natural rubber but avoids some of its undesirable qualities. This has directly to do with silicone rubber’s chemical composition, which features a repeating chain of silicon and oxygen as opposed to the carbon backbone of natural rubber.
