Plastic Merchandise Bags
Plastic merchandise bags are provided by retail businesses and given to customers after they have made a purchase to transport their new goods from the store to their home. They generally carry food, clothing or commercial retail products, and are given out by both small local businesses and large franchises alike. They are lightweight, strong and usually longer than they are wide. Most have handles that are either die cut or drawstring. Plastic merchandise bags are either made out of high density polyethylene, which isn't stretchy or porous, or low density polyethylene, which is also non porous but very stretchy. Polypropylene is not considered a good material for these bags because it is clear, rigid and makes a loud crinkling noise when touched. These bags are synonymous with shopping bags and retail bags.
Many plastic merchandise bags are printed with the name, logo or slogan of the retail store that provides them to customers. They are rarely transparent for privacy issues, but come in just about any color. The most common kind are referred to as "T-shirt bags," which are inexpensive and shaped so they fit on metal racks at the cashier checkout. These are commonly found in grocery stores and superstores. Instead of having a custom logo or text printed on their exterior, many feature a generic phrase (like "Have a nice day") or graphic (an American flag). While most plastic merchandise bags are recyclable, many stores are offering permanent, reusable woven bags as a greener alternative to plastic bags.
