Modular Offices
Modular offices are temporary pre-design and fabricated work spaces that are not connected to a building's permanent foundation. They are used by in-plant offices or manufacturing facilities and warehouses that are short on office space, or in areas where dust and debris from construction could disrupt workers. These alternatives to permanent buildings or add-ons provide quick, clean installation and low expenses-often half the prices of constructing a new permanent building. Redesign is easy, and these offices may be 1 or 2 stories, with a stairway on the interior or exterior. Modular offices can serve as break rooms, computer rooms, conference rooms, lunch rooms, and shipping and receiving areas. Many offer plumbing for bathroom and kitchen spaces. Though some may use modular offices as permanent solutions, they often don't last more than a decade and have limited shape options.
There are many components of modular offices. They are constructed around a base, often made of vinyl, a framing system and a floor track, which holds wall panels in place. The panels, which make up the walls, are fire and sound proof and held together by studs. They are often interchangeable. Single or double doors, often made of stainless steel, are found in every modular office, and the ceilings are composed of lay-in, sound proof tiles. Wiring studs permit the installation of an electric system, which is necessary for all office workspaces. Light fixtures and electrical outlets come standard. Many modular office manufacturers offer exhaust fan and climate control unit installation for those built outdoors or in facilities with harsh conditions.
