Storage Buildings
Storage buildings are examples of prefabricated buildings, or portable buildings, which are designed and built in a factory, and then transported to the intended location and assembled. Pre engineered buildings are a low cost and time efficient choice for storage building needs. As an alternative to conventional building techniques, prefabricated storage buildings are easy to install, are able to be custom designed and create minimal disruption to surroundings when in place. Depending on local building system regulations, a person may not be required to obtain a building permit for erecting a shed or smaller prefab structure, although it is always important to check before commencing a building project.
Storage buildings and sheds can be made of wood, plastic and vinyl, or commonly from a durable metal such as steel. For smaller personal uses, wooden sheds are the most common. Wooden sheds and storage buildings require close maintenance and upkeep as wood deteriorates over time, especially when exposed to humidity and elements of weather. Industrial storage buildings are almost always made of stainless steel because it is a strong yet lightweight material that won't bend or crack in harsh weather. Depending on the size of the storage building, it is advisable to attach it to a foundation both for safety reasons, and to avoid property damage in the case of heavy winds or storms. However, many storage buildings are not attached to any sort of foundation. All storage buildings are designed to be installed outside and thus exposed to all sorts of weather. Therefore, leak-proofing of a storage building structure is important, as is consideration of window and roofing material choice. Mastic tape or a similar sealant can be applied to every joint and panel connection. Storage buildings can vary in terms of complexity of design and construction, size, materials quality and longevity. Simple frames and structures are often used for back-garden sheds or basic storage structures. Other features such as shingled roofing, windows and expanded entrances, as well as electrical outlets and lighting capabilities may also be added to a more complex prefab shelter if required.
