Prefab Buildings
Prefabricated buildings are used for temporary offices at construction sites, for disaster relief housing and for military barracks. Furthermore, as businesses and organizations expand, the need for separation of space or expansion from restrictive office space can pose an expensive problem. Prefabricated buildings, or prefab shelters, provide a cost-effective and straightforward solution. There are stock portable buildings available and these can be used to meet a wide range of needs for storage, office space, classroom space or factories and warehouses. Stock buildings will have a predetermined structure and design, with a specific number of entrances and a set layout. For more specific expansion or building requirements, prefabricated buildings or building systems can be custom designed to almost any specification, including incorporation into an already existing building structure in order to make most effective use of the available space.
These buildings achieve many of the same functions as standard brick and mortar constructions yet are much quicker to build and assemble, and with less maintenance and extra costs than other building styles. Buildings can be constructed from strong materials such as steel and are often stabilized with the use of lumber. Some buildings such as relocatable buildings or portable buildings are transported whole, but most often there are components requiring construction onsite. For buildings such as steel buildings or large prefabricated garages, when they are delivered to intended site of assembly, a heavy-duty crane and construction crew is required to combine the components of the building in a permanent manner. Prefab structures can also be used to achieve standardized and more efficient use of space in the interior of cruise ships, hotels and chain restaurants, and to build efficiently in remote and rural locations. While saved time is the biggest benefit to using prefabricated buildings, there are other advantages to building with modular fabrications. Modular building tends to conserve more energy both in the process of building, and in the building as a whole. Money is saved in material costs, labor costs and construction costs. Contracts with builders are often more straightforward than with standard building projects as the procedure is much simpler. There is less chance of the customer losing money and materials.
