Used as long term temporary or permanent facilities, booth manufacturers' modular or prefabricated shelters such as booths offer an ideal solution to the many drawbacks of conventional building, including saving time and money. Typically constructed with a heavy duty steel or aluminum frame, insulated walls and roof panels, prefab booths are designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions and long term use. Most booth manufacturers completely assemble their booths in factories. A complete booth is then shipped or transported pre-finished and pre-wired and ready for use upon installation in its intended location. Prefabricated booths are often provided in standard sizes and layouts. For many applications, the basic requirements are the same and changes to the layout are not required. However, custom engineering for specific booth use is not uncommon, although it may add to the costs involved in purchasing a prefab booth.

While standard booths are the most cost effective and time effective solution, many booths can be customized with different features. A customized booth may take a number of weeks to be manufactured, but this slight delay will pay off if certain features are required. For example, windows and doors can be placed in locations other than the standard options, especially for booths made to fit in specific areas. Certain finishes can be applied to the windows such as UV-blocking glazing or mirrored tints to affect opacity etc. For booths intended for use as security checkpoints, or in areas where danger is a factor, bullet proofing is available as a feature for both the wall panels and for the glass using safety glass or laminated glass. Other options concerning insulation are available, both for heating and cooling. HVAC systems can be installed as ceiling mounted or wall mounted options, or electrical fans can be used. Booths tend to be smaller spaces but are still able to provide a comfortable and secure environment for the personnel within them and therefore layout in terms of counters and interior storage space should also be thought through carefully. Booths may also be modified for handicap accessibility if necessary. Booths are a versatile and useful alternative and can be fabricated according to specific needs, making them an ideal choice for industries requiring spaces such as these.
