Medical Plastic Bags
Plastic bags used in hospitals, doctors offices and medical labs are mostly made of polyethylene and come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and applications. Medical plastic bags made of plastic are most often used as biohazard and specimen transport that contains some sort of medication or bodily fluid or material that cannot come in contact with anything except the bag's interior. They must be disposable, sterile, non toxic, waterproof, sealable and durable if dropped. Their applications range from simple patient belonging bags to infectious waste liners or sickness bags. Medical plastic bags are also used to transport or dispose of medication. Chemo transfer bags and narcotic return bags are both used to contain and protect medicine that is en route.
Most medical plastic bags have some sort of printing on them. Many are labeled "STAT" or "Biohazard" to warn others of their contents, and most contain lines or boxes for labeling information. Some are transparent, while others are colors such as red, blue and yellow, which have designated meanings. For example, a red plastic bag is often used for sickness bags or soiled linen bags. They can be very large, to handle big loads of clothing or waste, or very small, to protect a needle or daily dosage of medication. All plastic bags for the medical industry are sealable. Some have re-sealable tape, permanent tape, tap tape or slug tape-all of which will not leak out any liquids. High density, low density and linear low density polypropylene are all used in medical settings.
