Frequently, the remanufacturing of a product requires either the replacement or the repair of worn or damaged components; as a result, many remanufacturing service companies also provide repair services and even, at times, retrofitting services to upgrade equipment that has become outdated in light of current emerging technologies. Remanufacturing services can also be referred to as either rebuilding or refurbishing, and are essential to many applications and industries including: industrial manufacturing, which utilizes a vast number of machinery for assembly, production, handling and processing applications such as stamping, forging, casting and more; automotive, in which remanufacturing is especially useful for the rebuilding of vintage vehicles such as an early model T or a ‘67 mustang convertible; aerospace, for the remanufacturing of components and machines that are vital parts of both the aircrafts and ground control equipment; and electronics, in which remanufacturing is utilized to revitalize worn or damaged computer components, electronic control equipment and more.
There are three main methods of remanufacturing: remanufacturing without identity loss, repetitive remanufacturing without identity loss and remanufacturing with the loss of the original product identity. When it comes to remanufacturing without identity loss, the machine is remanufactured utilizing the base constructed by the original manufacturers of the machine. However, the entire physical structure is inspected and analyzed for any signs of weakness, and then any worn or damaged components are replaced or repaired if possible. In addition, besides worn and damaged parts, any outdated parts are also replaced and updated. Repetitive remanufacturing without identity loss is the same process, just repeated multiple times. However, it is amazing that the machinery rebuilders are able to repeatedly remanufacture and overhaul a piece of equipment while maintaining the equipment's original identity. Even with repetitive remanufacturing without identity loss, it is common for a warranty to be provided for the overhauled product that is similar to that of the original manufacturer's. When it comes to remanufacturing with the loss of the original product identity, the original equipment is disassembled and separated into various components that are repaired if necessary or possible and kept for use in later projects. As a result, these parts are not again formed into the original equipment and thus suffer a complete loss of identity.
