Filter cloth is a type of wire cloth used for filtration and straining. Metal filter cloths are used for separating solids and for clear filtration of liquids. Metal filter cloths do not deteriorate during filtering and are environmentally-friendly.
Filter cloths most commonly use stainless steel, brass, copper or nickel wires. Metals are chosen based on their resistance to corrosion, abrasion, and heat. The wires in filter cloth generally have a different diameter in the warp than in the shute. The opening size of a filter cloth is generally measured in microns.
Most metal filter cloths are of the plain and twilled Dutch weaves, although certain applications use a square mesh. Twilled Dutch weaves offer greater strength than standard and plain Dutch weaves, as they pack more wires into a given area. Twilled Dutch weaves can filter materials as fine as two microns in diameter.
Filter cloths are used for chemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, water purification, refrigeration, metalworking, gas separation, the automotive and aerospace industries, and many other industrial uses.
