Military connectors are a type of electronic connector that has been manufactured according to military specifications, commonly abbreviated as MIL-SPEC. Commonly used by the United States (U.S.) Military, military specifications differ from military standards, which are primarily used in order to document performance as well as manufacturing requirements. Military specifications, on the other hand, are primarily used in order to document interoperability as well as additional physical characteristics.

Military connectors can be manufactured from a wide range of materials, including cable, wire and fiber optic materials. Some necessary (and some simply advantageous) characteristics of electronic military connectors include a rugged construction, an automatic locking system, the ability to easily connect and disconnect, hermetic connections and a wide range of possible operating temperatures. In addition, since electronic connectors are commonly available in a broad spectrum of colors, military connector manufacturers often feature the capability of providing camouflage-patterned military connectors. Military connectors are utilized in all sections of the military including the army, the navy and the air force, especially for use in the electrical systems of the vehicles utilized in those sections such as jet fighter planes, submarines, helicopters, tanks, and more.
There is a long list of military specifications, and a correspondingly vast amount of electronic military connectors in order to meet many of these specifications and fit within the requirements of the specific application. Some of the wide range of military specifications includes MIL-C-26482, MIL-DTL-38999, MIL-PRF-39012, MIL-DTL-32139 and MIL-DTL-83538. Formerly MIL-DTL-26482, MIL-C-26482 specifications for military connectors necessitates sealing against fluid and dust and may be used with a variety of electronic connections. A much more general military specification, MIL-DTL-38999 requires military connectors to be high environmental-resistance, high density and the ability to disconnect quickly. MIL-PRF-39012 is a more specific military specification, and must be coaxial and radio frequency connectors including BNC, SMA, TNC and SMB connectors. As for MIL-DTL-32139, it is another fairly general specification; however, it is solely for nano-miniature electronic connectors with a polarized shell. Lastly, (at least in this grouping), MIL-DTL-83538 provides specifications not only for military connectors but also for possible accessories such as a removable crimp, mounting adapters or nuts, cable bushings, accessory adapters, and protective covers. Military connector assemblies that meet these specifications also meet the specifications set by MIL-STD-1760 class I.
