Blow Molded Cases

Blow molded cases are formed by the process of using compressed air and melted plastic, otherwise known as blowmolding, to form hollow, thin-walled containers according to a desired shape and size. Blow Molded Cases

Formed from thermoplastic resins such as high and low density polycarbonate, polypropylene, polyvinyl, polystyrene and acetal, blow molded cases are used in industries including consumer, transportation, automotive and electronics. They can be used to ship, carry or protect sensitive materials such as audio/visual equipment, monitors, laptop computers, hand-held instruments and more. Blow molded cases can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from freezing weather to up to 180°F and are not affected by moisture, oils, chemicals or solvents. The protective qualities of blow molded cases make them ideal for storage purposes, preventing damage from rust, dents, splinters, cracks and scratches. Depending on the level of durability required for a certain product, the lids and bases can be single or double walled, and foam inserts an be used to further ensure safety, and for products or items with a complex and sensitive design.

The process of plastic blow molding, which can be injection, rotational or extrusion, uses a parison, or a tube-like piece of plastic into which compressed air can be forced. The parison is inserted into one end of the mold cavity in the desired shape of the finished case and set with a clamp. Air is then forced into the molten plastic and it expands to fit the mold cavity. It is important that the flow of compressed air be controlled and constant to ensure uniform expansion of the plastic and accurate replication of the cavity shape. The cavity is cooled and the plastic hardens in the shape of the cavity and is then released from the mold. While many blow molded containers are formed using standard die-cast cavities that are applicable to a wide range of industries, blow molding can be custom engineered to very specific requirements of customers. Plastic is a highly malleable material and is able to be worked into an almost endless arrangement of shapes and sizes making it an ideal material choice for many processes such as blow molded cases. The combined benefits of malleability and durability, as well as the efficiency and high-volume capabilities of the blow molding process make blow molded cases an affordable and effective choice for manufacturers and business owners.
