Ball bearing slides, also referred to as “ball slides,” are the most common type of linear slide due of their self-lubricating qualities, which increase their reliability. Ball bearing slides are composed of two rows of balls on both sides of the base, the rows being contained by four rods. The two rows of balls eliminate play and roll along the rods to create smooth, accurate, and low-friction motion.
Some uses for ball bearing slides include slides for delicate instrumentation, high-cycle applications, and clean room environments. Depending on what the ball bearing slides will be used for, important specifications may include base length, base height, carriage length, carriage width, and top height. Larger slides can handle bigger loads, but the slide has to be able to fit into the housing or drive system.
